So very tired...

Wednesday May 14, 2008
Yesterday I was soooo verrrry tiiired. Note to self... go to sleep before 4:30am! I've been having a hard time sleeping lately since my mind has been running 97 miles per hour. So yesterday it really caught up to me. I got up later than I wanted due to going to bed so late and went and did my work out. Because of my late start we missed park day again which was a bummer. After my workout I felt pretty good and had a little bit of energy. But as soon as I got going with my day I was ready to pass out. I prayed for the strength to make it through the day and to help overcome the crabiness that I knew would happen since I was so tired. I know it was because of those numerous prayers that I didn't go mental on my kids thank goodness. I was as productive as I could be but went pretty slow. I got a bit of a nap in the afternoon during Joaquin's nap and while Baily was watching a video. I started my General Conference studying plan yesterday. I was so excited to finally get it on Tuesday- I don't know why it took so long to get here. My initial plan was to read 2 talks a day, which is feasable (sp?), but I've decided to change it to one talk so I can really study it and work on applying what I learn instead of just trying to get through them quickly. Plus I'm really trying to simplify things in my life and stop trying to be such an over-achiever thus preventing crashing and burning. So anyway, I first read over the sustaining of the Prophet and General Authorities of the Church. This brought back the memory of how great I felt when I got to sustain President Thomas S. Monson in the Solemn Assembly. What a great blessing! I remember feeling when I raised my hand to sustain him the Holy Ghost whisper to me that this man was truly the Lord's Prophet here on earth. I was in my blogging rut during General Conference so I didn't post about how wonderful I thought General Conference was and how much I truly enjoyed it. It was definitely one I will never forget! So after that I read Elder Nelson's talk, "Salvation and Exaltation." (The link is at the bottom if you want, and you do, to read it.) What an awesome talk! I remember when I heard it I was sure that was going to be my favorite. (This was before Elder Ballard's historic talk!) I never really thought about and internalized this quote:
"In God’s eternal plan, salvation is an individual matter; exaltation is a family matter."
How important it is to raise and be part of a righteous family. I can't do it on my own. I also loved his council on parenting and correcting children righteously. It was something I definitely needed to hear and learn from. I'm really going to focus on only correcting Baily and my kids in the future, only when moved on by the Holy Ghost and making sure I show an abundance of love afterward and making sure it's sincere love. Later on I got to go Visiting Teaching. This is only my 2nd time with my new partner and new sister and I already love them to death. We were able to get some good visiting in and since Robert was at work and I had to bring my kids with me, Baily had a blast playing with her 3 boys in their awesome back yard with a swingset, grass and a trampoline. I got to do the lesson/thought this month and I was excited since it was the General Conference Ensign and I could pick any talk I wanted. I originally wanted to do Elder Ballard's talk but I thought that since it had been so big and talked about already every where (and in good reason- it was awesome!) I wanted to do a different one. And since I was so pumped up about Elder Nelson's I chose that one. We had such a good discussion and one of the things she brought up (the sister we were visiting) was how we don't need parenting books and outside resources to truly help us- we have the Gospel and the teachings of the Latter-day Prophets. Then she shared this quote from a previous talk of Elder Packer's:
"True doctrine, understood, changes attitudes and behavior. The study of the doctrines of the gospel will improve behavior quicker than a study of behavior will improve behavior."
I never really thought that I could get advice about disciplining my toddler from General Conference but I have- a lot! We are so blessed and I know without a doubt that Heavenly Father knows each of us and is aware of each of our trials in today's world. Wow! We are so very blessed! And I think I'll end on that thought.
